Final Top 10 Albums of the Decade

by Ben
Now I know we technically missed the deadline here, but I got a couple of more top 10 albums of the decade from friends that I really wanted to share.  They serve as cool comparisons to the previous two lists, one from Chris and one from Jimmy.  Take a look at all four and pick which one you like best in the comments.

The first top 10 is from my good buddy Sara, in no particular order (Canadian content is in bold – way to surpass the CRTCs 30% threshold!):

  1. Bon Iver – For Emma, Forever Ago -2008
  2. Amy Winehouse – Back To Black – 2006
  3. Tegan and Sara – So Jealous  – 2004
  4. Bell and Sebastian – Fold your Hands Child, You Walk Like a Peasant -2000
  5. Mates of State – Bring it Back -2006
  6. Dinosaur Jr. – Beyond 2007
  7. The Killers – Hot Fuss – 2004
  8. The Stars – Heart – 2003
  9. Metric – Live it Out – 2009
  10. Hayden – Elk Lake Serenade -2004

The final top 10 is from Mandy (picks in bold, runners up below):

The Weakerthans – Left & Leaving

Modest Mouse – The Moon & Antarctica

Radio Head – Kid A

Enya – A day without rain

Tool – Lataralus

Sigor Ros – ( )

Norah Jones – Come away with me

Matthew Good – Avalanche

Sarah McLachlan – Afterglow

The Postal Service – Give up

Modest Mouse – Good news for people who love bad news

Arcade Fire – Funeral

Norah Jones – Feels like home

The Streets – A grand don’t come for free

Hayden – Elk Lake Serenade

Sarah Harmer – I’m a mountain

Death Cab for Cutie – Plans

Bright Eyes – I’m wide awake, it’s morning

Sufjan Stevens – Illinois

Regina Spektor – Begin to Hope

M.Ward – Post War

Ingrid Michaelson – Girls & Boys

Muse – Black Holes & Revelations

2007 (good year…can’t pick just one)

Tegan & Sara – The Con

Cinematic Orchestra – Ma Fleur

The New Pornographers – Challenger

Arcade Fire – Neon Bible

Eddie Vedder – Into the Wild

Feist – The Reminder

Kings of Leon – Because of the times

Kings of Leon – Only by the night

Kathleen Edwards – Asking for Flowers

Hayden – In Field & Town

2009 (a good year…can’t pick just one)

Mew – No more stories…

Pearl Jam – Backspacer

Regina Spektor – Far

Muse – The Resistance

Tegan & Sara – Sainthood

I was happy to see some surprises (for me) on these lists.   In Sara’s, never expected the Amy Winehouse pick – care to elaborate?  And I still think Hayden is a solid choice.  And Mandy…Enya? Really? But you redeem yourself with Modest Mouse’s Good News, which I’m a big fan of.

Okay, this ends another musical interlude, thanks everyone for sharing your picks!  Back to urban talk soon.

After a brief converstaion with Chris and his views on Enya being the parent anthem for sex, I feel sick and the need to take it off my list ;) Truthfully, putting aside that new mental image, I found that this particular enya album grabbed my attention. Clearly, I was younger when it came out and enjoyed it very much at the time. It is by no means my favourite album of 2000; however, I felt this odd need to mention it. So suck it! ;) I kid, I will check out the other lists as well…always up for something new!

My mental eyes are burning as well Ben! Chris and his lovely idea to share that image with me – and for me to share with all of you! :) Lucky blog readers.

What about Van Halen II? Oh yeah, that’s like 25 years ago. *sigh*

  4. Sara says :

In comment to Amy Winehouse, a little bit of self destruction is good for the soul, just like my Tom Waits break-up intervention.

I really like baking and cooking to that Amy Winehouse album. I’m a complicated lady.
